The Operation of hydraulic energy is an ancient tradition in the Pyrenees. SHEM was one of the early 20th Century pioneers that understood and harnessed the energy potential offered by the lakes. In using water, a clean natural resource, SHEM was responsible for the early days of the electric railway, the electrification of the towns and industrial development in the Greater South-West.

Today, our installations are so well integrated into the environment that it is often impossible to tell the difference between a natural lake and an artificial dam.
